Question for those that have used Rob Ingleby

I am probably going to use Rob Ingleby and his full service, i.e let him find the car, do the negotiating etc and the inspection.
Just wanted to know, those of you that have used his full service rather than the inspection only service, i just wondered how much discount he manages to haggle with potential sellers and how good a deal you got by using this service rather than just the inspection only service.

I used Rob last winter for my Chim.
As it was my first, I reasoned that as I had no idea what to look for when test driving etc. it was better to pay someone else to look for me.
Sent him an email wish list and six weeks later he came up with what he thought was a good buy. (he kept me posted in the interim as to what he had seen and why he didn't think they were any good).
Didn't expect any discount on price, although it was nice to have someone else dance the dance with the vendor.
Was pleased when Rob got 500 quid off the asking price; which neatly corresponded with what I paid him!
Result for all concerned.

Rob found mine and we got £2800 off the price ! Admittedly the guy had been a little optimistic with the price but the good thing about Rob is he sees so many cars he can tell the vendor what those cars are fetching (not what people are asking ) at the moment and can negotiate over the things he finds that want doing to it ( mine wanted new rad and starter, service and 2 new rear tyres ). Having had a Chim for a while now ( and having turned into a TVR anorak ) I'm not sure if I'd use him again - though he does get about a bit - saves you a fortune in petrol and dissapointment when you travel to Scotland to see a "minter" to find out its a "minger".....well worth his fee IMHO.
I used Rob to locate my Griff 500 for me about 20 months ago. I went for the full service as it was my first TVR so, like others, I was happy to pay the £500 for the peace of mind.
Now I did question whether spending that amount of money was a sensible idea at the time (before he found me the car) but then I just thought it'd save me a lot of time and hassle, especially as I was very specific about what colour etc I wanted. As for the price, he managed to get £500 off what the guy was asking for it. However there's a good chance you can get this kind of money off in any private sale through a bit of haggling/negotiation etc.
The most important bit for me was that he found me the car I WANTED, not just one I'd like, and it's an absolute cracker. EVERY garage it's ever been to has said it's in superb condition and the seller had an inch thick pile of history on it. I could sell it now for what I paid for it so that £500 was some of the best money I ever spent!

The man got £2000 of the price for my Chim. Admittedly, the asking proce was a bit high, but he did a job I coun't do. I would have probably ignored the car to start with, as the asking price was so high. Even if I had approached the seller directly, I don't think I was have had the front to suggest he accept such a drop in price.
If you think about it, Rob has a great bargaining position. He can say 'don't blame me for suggesting you accept such a low offer, I'm just the middle man'!
The seller can't then get upset with him.
I would recommend him because ;
(a) He knows his stuff.
(b) He's a great negotiator.
(c) He's trustworthy.

I used Rob for my Chim over 2.5yrs ago (he didn't offer an inspection only service then) and gave him a very specific spec to work from. In the end I actually found the cars (adverts) - asked his opinion and off he went. The best of the bunch could not be discounted, despite Rob's dilligent efforts and I ended up actually paying over - but it was sooooo much better than the others. Still very happy with my car. Next time I will get Rob to do the inspection-only bit.
