When I removed it, it had black silicone around the water duct ports and in the creavis under the cylinder head. Does this have to be a specific type of silicone or sealant? I was thinking of using Sikaflex or Hylomar? Do I need to put anything under the rubber gaskets? Same for the rocker cover seals?

Cheers again!

I used hylomar on mine all round with a little silicone in the crevice where you mentioned. This was because as my heads have been significantly skimmed the standard rubber valley gasket rubbers were way too proud and had to be trimmed down at the ends. A bit of silicone in the crevice and hylomar on the mating faces will see you alright.

Excellent, thanks for that! When you both bolted the seals back into the valley and the manifold back on, what torque settings did you use and did you use Loctite?

Only I noticed that the metal brackets holding the rubber seal onto the valley had become loose on a couple of occasions and the manifold was fairly easy to remove too.

Me too! I was going to do it today, but need to fit some full radius flared trumpets and will need to grind some of the trumpet base out. I'll leave the intake manifold out until I'm sure I don't need to port match/ blend it. Still, new fuel lines fitted, pax footwell heater rail fitted with new heater hoses, dizzy cleaned-up and new O rings fitted to injectors etc. Rocker covers painted and plenum chamber painted and re-badged. PAS pump cleaned and re-assembled and new hoses awaiting fitting. I just want to get it back together. I can't believe we've just had two glorious days and the car has been off the road! Parts everywhere wobble

Hi all,
Apart from sealing either end of the rubber insert is it worth sealing around the inlet and water ports between the engine and gasket and gasket and inlet manifold? If so, which is best to use, Hylomar or high temp dirko?
Thanks in advance.

You should only need RTV blobs in the corners of the rubber seals where they meet the heads and block you should need no other sealers around the ports etc when using the coated black valley gasket IMO
