Looking at the different TVR parts sites for a new Alternator for my 98 450 serpentine engine, think the part number is E2152. I notice the sticker on the side of existing alternator has a Land Rover logo so do you guys know if there is a better parts site to go to, as this is a non TVR specific part??, and therefore a better price? Thanks, Will.

I believe this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271186164089?ssPageName=...

has been mentioned on here previously as one that fits.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be able to confirm/refute...

Thanks, It certainly looks the biz, as you say confirmation needed!

I know this doesn't help but a mate took his alternator off a rare Renault alpine A610 to a guy in daventry who stripped it down, completely re wired it and a year later still pumps a consistant 14.6 volts.

My point, you could take the metal case and get it Chromed/ polished up before re building it, cool.

It's in such a prominent place it would look really nice.

It's all long winded and I want a new one, then I could get the old one re worked!
Just an idea. I'll find out what it costs and post it up.

This is indeed the correct one and the same that I bought; 100AMP and genuine Landrover. It also comes with the right pulley for the serpentine pulleys.

On recommendations of chris1972 I also bought the Hobson industries 100 amp alternator (as the ebay link already in this thread) and very pleased I am too.

Great ebayer's lovely alternator, with the very significant fact that the new one came with the pulley already fitted.

I can only imagine the struggle if you had to swap pulleys from old to new without the right specialist tools.

If you look at their web site, they security prep cars, so I can only assume they need an uprated system requiring more output from the alternator. All the bits are stripped off brand new vehicles!

Thanks all for the recommendation, have purchased this morning.

Re fitting are the bolts easy to remove, any tips for removal please?

Yes they're pretty easy. I cannot remember what size nuts they are, but you may find that you'll need a ratchet to remove the bolt (front side) and a spanner to prevent the nut from rotating (back side). As for the belt, I loosened the tensioner nut a little and then used the rubber handle of a hammer to push it forward, giving enough slack to remove the belt.

15mm spanner or socket to unload the tensioner, the bolts are 10mm head and 13mm nuts, the electrical terminals 8mm & 10mm from memory scratchchin you don't need to disconnect the battery just be careful not to let the big cable touch any metal components on the engine frown move the alternator off the bracket before messing with those terminals, another pair of hands would be of benefit but do-able on your own see vid cool make sure the battery is charged and not flat before you attempt to start the car its bad practice to give a new alternator a hard time straight away rolleyes this video will help although the guy is a GIT laugh Alex waveyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfIg2afMts8

Opinions Please! Is there a problem??

Received and fitted new alternator today and providing full charge. However on started up it emits a high pitched whistle, turbine like, which quickly settles to almost inaudable although if I rev the engine I can hear it again, then decreasing as the revs settle, but hard to tell due to exhaust noise if its there as I rev-up.
I have done a quick internet search which suggests it may be a faulty diode pack? Opinion is divided as to whether its the bearings as these are metal and sealed and would more likely cause a rumble!?
I have double checked all connections at alternator & battery. Plus checked serp belt.

So is this a new unit that will settle or faulty??

The new alternator hasn't got a piece of packing paper or the like stuck in it has it?

It wont be bearings, is the pulley nut tight that pulley does not have a keyway so relies on the nut being proper tight, are you certain the Serp belt is on all pulleys correctly.
