Is this a power steering hose? Why are they damp?
Discussion
Hi,
I was just checking the oil this morning work and was giving the engine bay a quick check over. I found these hoses looked like they were damp and had a build up of fluid and dirt around them.
I think they're power steering hoses - is that correct? Why would they be leaking? The other end of the hose is wet too, the 90 degree fitting underneath the pump, but I couldn't get my camera in there. Is the best course of action to remove all these hoses and replace? Anything else I should know?
Cheers,
Dan

These jobbies?

Quite expensive for hoses, I was planning on cutting a load of fuel hose off the reel at work and using that! They do look nice though, might give them a go.
What's involved with changing them? Just refill at the pot by the plenum?

power steering hoses run quite high pressure, and some leak if they are not correctly tightened, and some just bleed through if they are not the correct material or rated to the correct pressure.
fuel and pas hoses are not made of the same materials
Ok, I was basing it on the fact that Racing Green say the hoses are interchangeablefuel and pas hoses are not made of the same materials

They are fairly straightforward to fit, the connection to the PAS Pump is the only exception, the bolt is hard to get at an you can only use an open ended spanner, this runs the risk of rounding it off.
I had to resort to taking the Pump off, not a hard job, just time consuming.
Flush the system and fluid reservoir out for longevity.

Look in the piston heads classifieds and click the tab for parts. The John Zubak hoses are under the TVR section.
The high pressure hose under the PAS pump is a pain. I took my pump out to get it off.
Oh I see. I thought the Zuback hoses were a different set to the jonnyz hoses. Makes sense now. Thanks. The high pressure hose under the PAS pump is a pain. I took my pump out to get it off.
I'm now tempted by all his other shiny stuff though!

Those are the jobbies, they do look good quality but as you say a tad expensive.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/parts-and-p...

Fuel hose [i.e petrol hose] of the correct diameter is perfect to use. Just use new jubilee clips and no more leaks.
Some of the hose has to be high pressure but thats just from the pump to the rack, and this hose has high pressure fittings.
I changed mine about 3 years ago for fuel hose and new clips and no leaks since.
Do not use standard rubber hose as the Pas fluid rots it from the inside.
