Bought it already (just in case this post caused a rush...).

Is there any obvious reason why this would not work? Looks the same at least.

Worth having as a spare at that price. Or I may be putting it straight back on there if it's the wrong part.

I fitted one of those same ones before changing the ecu. Dont need one with the Emerald. It worked fine. Just make sure the connector plug will go on. There is a lug within the plug which means it can only fit one way. These lugs within the plugs can be of different orientation depending on year.

You're not kidding. This is how much it costs once you add TVR tax (plus mug postage rates):

Assuming it works, but I really don't see why not.

Hmm, on the face of it you'd think they would just work as they're simple right?. However I've had several 'cheap' steppers from ebay and none have worked properly. Indeed I bought one once and the guy kept changing them for me but I never got one that worked from him and after three or four it was costing me more in postage than to go and buy a proper one. Another worked for a while then went erratic. I had a four at one point confusedhehe

This really is a case of you get what you pay for, you may be lucky but my experience is not good.

I'm not sure I'd install it permanently but it might get me out of a hole at some point, definitely worth keeping with the other bits in the boot.

Hopefully it will arrive before the weekend and I can test it properly.

Fitted to car.. Wouldn't idle at first (immediately after start up), kept cutting out. Prodded the throttle a bit to keep it running and eventually settled at 900 RPM.. Did a 30 mile run. Seemed fine pulling up to junctions etc. Put the proper one back in, cheap one in the boot. Useful as a spare to maybe dig you out of a hole at some point, but I don't trust it for permanent use.

If you are having problems with the stepper why not just disconnect it when the engine is warm and ticking over nicely. It may struggle to tick over when cold for the first few minutes but after that it wont give you any more problems.

I'm not, just testing an unusually cheap part. Maybe I'm just public spirited.

That's typical of a new stepper and an ECU reset, you always need to hold the revs for a few seconds to 'teach' the ECU were the idle is. You might be lucky and have a good one.
