Evening all ,I have returned to the TVR fold with a Chimaera 430 and could not be happier, though I may be troubling the more knowledgeable owners with a few questions over the next few days or weeks.
1st problem is the insurance company want to know the make of the immobilizer, was it a standard fitment at the factory or a later edition ?, I have no paperwork referring to it so cannot give them the info. they are demanding. Bear in mind it will be 20 years old later this year & is very original, previously owned by one of the Kerridge family & used very little between 2004-12.

Um, possibly a silly question but are you sure that it has one?

Felt that one coming, smile yes ,in as much as when the car is locked a red blinking light comes on & the previous owner explained to me that`s how it worked & what it was for. In short, there is no remote central locking, just manual.

Definitely interesting, how does it know the difference between the door being unlocked with a key instead of from another way? I need answers, someone must know how this works biggrin

No alarm at all, needs sorting I know though I don`t think many TVR`S get stolen, I may have just made that up thinking about it.

Ok, it`s a bit complex, key goes in with the slot at the horizontal, turn anticlockwise, press down ,then turn all the way clockwise ,till it stops & the doors lock, immobilizer armed. Unlocking is the same function, takes a little getting used to, keep thinking I`ve gone back in time . I spent about 10 minutes trying to get in the bugger the day after I got it.

Mmmm that sounds like it doesnt have an immobilser. My 430 had the meta disconnected and a cobra fitted. The meta is still connected and in the original position but doesnt work, the cobra works on a keyfob and blips the horn when switched on or off. I think yours may not. Have you any paperwork .

No paperwork, I was assured it doe have an immobilizer however, what`s the light for otherwise. This question has only just come up today so I haven`t had chance to search around the car much yet.
What is the best bet for a new system??

HM I have pm'd you re=locking/unlocking. It not only has an immobiliser, but an Alarm as well - my paper work is not at hand to help you state the set-up, sorry.

Most Alarms have some details on the siren, have a poke around under the bonnet or near the front air intake, It may reveal something. I noticed you are East Mids based, cant be far from me. When was it first registered, Im trying to work out when the first 430s were first registered as I suspect mine could be one of the first five.

It was registered in August 93, I bought it because it was a bit different, was looking at 400`s ,didn`t want another 500 because I can`t behave myself smile I will do as you say though, must be worth a look, thanks.
I`m in Sawley-Long Eaton by the way
