Firstly, hello. Having been lurking here for a good while I might finally be in a position to buy the Chim I promised myself in 1994 when I did two weeks work experience at the factory, for no other reason than because I loved TVRs.

But this is more than a simple introduction and a "help me find a Chim" thread... it is much more serious than that.

My question is... can I even get a TVR in my garage? I could use some sort of maths or something about a hippopotaneuse to ask this question but I'm not clever enough, so instead can any kind should tell me if, based on these simple pictures, they believe my driveway not to be so steep that my dreams are to be shattered unless I move house?

Thanks all. Hopefully this will be my first of many threads and not my only contribution before I start another What Car thread!

Looking at the pics, it could quite possibly ground out, but you could make some sleeper style ramps to prevent it

You want a "Wanted Ad" for a Chim owner to come over for a beer/tea/coffee/donut.

Whilst he is enjoying your hospitality, you can drive his/her Chim in & out of the garage - I would have some 4x2 scaffold planks ready though 8-))

Happily, but sadly I am parting with my Chim, but it is in deep south - Wiltshire, otherwise.............the new Tam would not get into your garage without some jjjj-jiggiling.

Good luck and welcome to the Club.....shortly?

You nead a ramp
Mine bottoms out on a flat drive
A pair or trailer ramps will do your job
Go get one and join the madness the drive is nothing
Get your wallet out and enjoy

Solutions, I like solutions. It'll take more than a bit of faffing about with scaffold planks/sleepers to stop me buying one but it'd be good to know how big the problem is before I take the plunge.

Anyone in Bolton willing to risk bottoming their Chim out on my driveway in exchange for a cup of tea give me a shout spin

If I was sensible I would wait until winter when prices might drop a bit, but I'm not that sensible so I'll probably get one in a couple of weeks after our holiday. thumbup

I would think it would scrape without some wood ramps, I'm in Swinton so could pop over some time if you like.

Had I lost faith in humanity, this place would restore it. smile The offers are unexpected but readily accepted, PM me, it'd be good to meet other owners and have a chat/general look over a car at the things to focus on when buying anyway. I haven't looked closely at one in 19 years! I pay with tea, beer, petrol money...

Would this mean multi storey car parks are out of question? Looks allright to me... a Cerb would struggle or the pipes of a griff - but us sensible folk... surely that angle aint so bad ?

Looking forward to the pics smile

I think your problem is more likely at the top of the drive than the bottom!!

I reckon you'll have two problems - bottom of ramp when you're coming forward out of the garage ... the garage floor is slightly higher than the slabs outside so you'll be slightly nose-down as you drive towards the upwards slope which will give you less nose clearance than usual and also I reckon that at the top you'll belly out as well but a friend who had that problem used to get round it by turning and going over the top "crest" at an angle which stopped his Chim grounding.

I'd be more concerned about the top end of your driveway where it flattens out. You could scrape the middle of the car there. My gut feeling is that you'll JUST get away with it at the bottom, perhaps scraping the tips of the exhausts slightly.

I've been amazed by some of the humps, ramps etc that my fully (and I mean fully) loaded Chimaera has cleared without scraping.

I think you might just do it.
