Got my new wheel bearing seals (inner)and drive shaft gaiters. When I got the old seals out most of the plastic part of the seal was in with the bearing,so i fitted the new seal, reasembled it all together on the bench to check all was ok.Before the drive shaft nut was tight i could hardly turn the bearing housing and the the seal looked completely squashed up.Question is should there be a smaall spacer or something to stop this from happening, can't see the seal lasting very long as it is.Sorry if my description is not very good, hope this makes sense.

Sounds like you may have left part of the old seal in there?

It happened to me as well...And I had forgottent that big washer the drive shaft nut comes in contact with.
Check out that you haven't forgotten it. It is normally visible outside of the hub, just behind the big nut.

The outer seal is ok, the problem is with the inner seal it looks like it is squashed right up against the drive shaft flange. Both sides are the same.It looks as the the bearing housing is going to far on to the shaft,or maybe thats just the way it is.

This yes

Fitted new bearings last week.

Pressed in both bearings and then each seal till the seal face was flush. Thought that was job done, but just as a double check, i went to make sure both seals were pressed home, and one of them, [sorry cant remember for sure which one, but i think its the inner seal] does press in further. So now the face is a few mm inside the bearing housing and not flush with it.
