Before any asks, it's not my car and I have no affiliation with the garage, however like a lot of people on here, I constantly trawl though the classifieds eyeing up what I would like.

This chimaera seems to have all the right bits, especially factory wheel and brake upgrade. Just surprised it is still for sale??

Colour is marmite.

Strong money for a 4.0 (albeit HC)

Well I happen to love marmite!!!

Actually I hate marmite, I like yellow though.
Looks a bit pricey though, how do they know it's an HC? I didn't know they did that option on the later stuff, I thought it was all the early ones.
No doubt someone will put me straight.

£14.5k for a '98 four litre with the old style Fiesta rear lights that will undoubtedly need the chassis refurbing? No thanks, you can have my refurbished 500 for a good few grand less than that!

Looks nice though. smile

I was in the area a few weeks ago and went in and had a quick look it - was up at £17K then!

The front is peppered with stone chips and the pictures flatter the overall condition IMHO.

I think it will be there for some time at that price!

At that price, for that spec/colour, I am very unsurprised it hasn't sold yet..

Way too high a premium for low miles - I'd rather have one that has been used and well maintained.

A '98 with old Fiesta rear lights?

Looks like it may have the later boot as well? (can't see the silver hinges). Also has the later Tuscan style mirror control.

Brake upgrade a nice to have, but seems high price wise, IMO.

Why do we keep talking down the price of our cars. Shouldn't we be talking them up? After all they are becoming classics.

Personally it sounds about right to me price wise. Mine is a 1999 400 with 26k miles and I wouldn't want to let it go for that money. Maybe I'm just deluded though! smile

For the 100th time +1
Mines a 97 500 and you couldn't get it from me with that money and a loaded gun.

Absolutely GB - I know I constantly seem to have issues to fix with mine too but I wouldn't sell her ... I might get another one as the chances of them both being broken at the same time would be minimal but I won't ever sell her ... even though I've been told that she may be the cause of my prolapsed disc!!! hehe

yes

Personally I love the colour and it does look like a nice example, but that's a lot of cash for a 4-litre.

Mine is a 98 and has the new style boot but old lights and number plate. The factory was in transition to the new rear end in 1998 so lots of cars are hybrids as it were.

Agreed this is top money for a 400. I have more or less the same car (yellow, 98) but it's a 500. Alright it has 53k on the clock but it cost me 3k less then that one. The problem with 400's is there are just so many of them they will never attract a premium even if they are mint.

I've had a 450 previously and now have a 500. I honestly think the 500 chimaera represents the best value for money in terms of RV8 cars. In terms of numbers it is by far the rarest (even more so than the Griff). I've not bought it as an investment but I think it has the best chance of holding it's value.

Correction;
"...that's a lot of cash for a 4-litre when compared to the handful of good 450/500s currently available."

But that just means they are too cheap!

If someone offered me 20K for mine I'd consider it. For about half a second then tell them politely to bugger off smile
