Thanks both. Do you know how I would access the carbon canister please? I have had an ecu error message about it (assuming that it is the also the purge valve?). It has cleared and the car is running fine again, but would like to check it out if possible.

It lives inside the very front o/s wing.

First pic is through the inspection hatch in the wheel arch. The bolt and nut can just been seen on the left in the dirt that holds the clamp that holds the canister. Second pic is through the front grill.

I didn't even know they had one, what happens if you throw it away when it blocks?

Not sure. It must need one or they wouldn't have put one in is my thoughts?

Although I have decatted, until a couple of weeks ago, it always flew through the emissions tests at mot time. It failed first time this year, with high hydro carbons and wasn't as smooth on idle, although passed emissions on re-test. I checked everything with rover gauge and found fault code 88 - leaking purge valve.

I cleared that and reset everything and all is good now. Loads of miles today and normal smooth idle resumed.

I will have a look at the canister and report back.
