Would appreciate some advice regarding a problem with my alarm.

On pressing the alarm fob the indicators blink on and off a few times (no siren noise), doors and boot all lock OK. Similarly when unlocking.

However, the alarm isn't triggered by movement in the car.

The indicators flash on as movement occurs (waving hand around) but extinguish as soon as the movement stops which clearly indicates that the movement has been detected. However, no triggering of the alarm itself.

Immobilizer works fine.

Any thoughts as to how to solve this?

Thanks
Jim

Is this a Meta alarm, or is it an early car?
Does the alarm siren sound if you trigger the alarm intentionally?
You say the lights flash on setting. How many times?
On setting, is there a four beep sound, one beep each time the hazard lights come on, one each time they go off?

Could be the siren that's gone. Sit in the car and arm the alarm. Sit still until the alarm LED starts flashing normally and at a steady rate. Then move around or open a door to trigger the alarm. If the indicators flash but no sound the siren is buggered. Mine is doing it at the moment and I have a siren to fit this weekend that was loaned to me by a fellow TVR owner.

Dohh!

Turned out not to be a problem at all.

The alarm system has an approximate 45 second delay before the microwave detector becomes active. Prior to this, movement is detected but doesn't trigger the siren - just flashes the indicators.

After 45 seconds, the system is fully active and the siren is triggered as expected.

Should have spent more time reading the manual - sorry about that!

Another catch for the unwary:

The microwave is very senstitive and it is not uncommon for owners to turn the microwave sensor right down so that it doesn't work. This was the case when I got mine back after two years.

How do you turn the microwave sensitivity down?

Mine often sounds during wind or rain, usually at 3am.

Take a coffee with you and...

1. Find it under the central console
2. Locate hole with '+/ -' written next to it
3. Insert impossibly small screwdriver (watchmakers or glasses, flathead)
4. Turn down
5. Try it out - remember it has a 30-45 sec lag phase before it is activated so this is where the coffee comes in
6. Fiddle with it
7. Go back to 5 until you are happy
8. Put console back on and smile smugly
9. Wake up at 2am as cat jumps onto car roof and curse the Gods of Meta Alarms

Actually its pretty easy, but a bit tedious fiddling around with it.
