morning all, can anyone tell me what the difference is between early & late seatbelts in a chim please?
ive just been looking & the newer type are listed at £52 each & the early type at £123! do they mount differently or something? ive got a new one that i was given for the drivers side made by a company called securon? my friend bought a pair for a 98 car & only used the passenger one. i dont want to take my seat out if the newer ones wont fit! mines a 93 car btw.

According to the Securon Website it's a 500/30 you need.

£27 with the postage on Ebay. wink

Just to slightly hijack this thread but I think it's a fair question:

Do these normally just bolt in or is there frequently a problem removing the bolts from the chassis due to rust?

My seatbelts are a little 'tired' looking (nothing major and work fine) but I'm worried about unbolting the old ones to find out that it’s rusted into the chassis or I do other damage. (Or am I just being a bit ridiculous?)

Never tried removing mine, it's on the cards, but I think a fairly easy job with just bolts used.
You do have to make sure the mechanism is in the correct position or it won't lock in an accident.
I'm no expert on this but jacking the back of the car up once new belt is fitted seems a good way to check if it locks, but there may be a better way.
All I can suggest is try and loosen bolts before buying new, if they don't move or you are not confident leave it to the experts and they can fix any problems as they occur.

Park on a slight up-slope - makes my seat belts lock every time when i am trying to put them on...grrrr!

Both heads sheared off the bolts that go into the outrigger when I changed my seatbelts so be careful.

That exlains a lot....

My drive is on quite a slope and it takes me an age to get my seatbelt on when I firsy get in the car. I have to coax it out an dinch at a time.

After reading this, I'll get off the drive before I put my belt on now.

Thanks

Quick hijack for a related question.
My belts passed the MOT, but to be honest I have never had belts on any other car that hated retracting as much as these do. Is that a design feature, due to the layout and the belts getting trapped between the seat and the carpet (I am not a midget and do have the seats well back), or are the springs in mine knackered?

I'm just about to do a few mods to mine which I'm hoping will fix that annoying problem...
