More fault finding after service
Discussion
Doing a bit more fault finding following a service
The ice warning light (that has worked fine for the last 11 years) is now intermittently flickering as I'm driving. Presume the wiring has been disturbed during the service.
Can anyone tell me where the sensor is please.
Found a bolt on top of the engine this morning too
. I recognised it but had to think for a while before I worked out it was the bolt that holds the coil into the clamp. Fortunately, I haven't had to do any heavy braking since the service!
Cheers.

TREV450 is correct, it is loose around the radiator normally in front of it. Just look at the wiring around that area and you will find the sensor. It maybe that the wiring to it is just corroded or it could be faulty. I suggest cleaning the wiring and try that first. I'm not sure how it works but I guess it is some kind of thermistor or something similar. You can alway borrow another one from another car to confirm that the rest of the circuit is functioning correctly.
Yes it is just a thermistor and it sits in the front just below the rad in all of th e damp stuff.
If it goes open cct and they often do due to corrosion then the the led will come on.
You can just buy the thermistor from Clevor Trevor or you could for about £4 which is an expensive thermistor. Maplins would be about 30p if you know which one to get.
The whole new unit is about £22 if I remember correctly.

Thanks everyone. Sound likely that it's wiring around the radiator as I have today found another new fault since service: the nearside fan doesn't come on ! So probably some damage to wiring in that area has been done / disturbed or something hasn't been put back correctly.
List of things to correct since service/chassis work : coil bolt to replace, misfire to diagnose, poor cold start, steering rack dripping oil, nearside fan not running, ice sensor.
I'd take it back to the garage if they were nearer. Thank goodness for PH forums !

Grab the wiring to the fan (its just below it, work out which is which fan), find the connector, and waggle it, or even take it apart and clean it. Takes less than five mins.FRankly that fault can occur any time, and if the engine didn't get hot in the serviceList of things to correct since service/chassis work : coil bolt to replace, misfire to diagnose, poor cold start, steering rack dripping oil, nearside fan not running, ice sensor.

I had the same problem. When both stop working, you have no cooling when stuck in a jam in town.....which has consequences.

You're right of course, could be a consequence and could happen at any time but they were definitely working before the work was done and not after. The reason I know is the first time they came on after I got the car back, I knew instantly there was a problem as they sound very different when one is off. As for fans not coming on, surely a check of the operation of the otter switch, fans and that it doesn't overheat should be checked under a major service ?I had the same problem. I'll sort it on the weekend.
