Just took the precats out and I had double gaskets in place, as in 2 x thick. should I put it back together the same way. Has anyone else come across this.

have you got an ACT y piece of a Clive F one? if it works this maybe the way to line up the y piece better with the clamps then tighten manifold bolts up fully.. that extra bit of leeway could help alignment?

will it work???

My car only had one gasket. I've just used a different Y-pice and if anything the manifolds could have done with being closer together, not further apart. I wonder if you replace it with one gasket if it will fit now the manifolds have been removed?

Yes Same normally one gasket, as above normally the manifolds have to be ratchet strapped together to fit Y piece. The gasket hasn't seperated has it, if re fitting I'd use new ones.

It's quite possible that whoever replaced them last hoped to take up the 'slack' of any imperfections in the manifold faces.

I have seen this done before, but how well it works will likely depend on the gasket material, and the condition of the manifold faces.

I'll put it back together with one good set.
It looked like the original bolts were still in place so I wonder if the factory fitted them.

I purchased a cheap set of ratchet straps from Screwfix. Cost me £9 I think. A single ratchet was all it took to yank the manifolds closer together.
