So now my alarm seems to 'set' itself and go off as i am driving.
It takes me a while at motorway speeds before i realize i am driving with the siren screaming and hazard lights flashing.
I must have had to hit the key fob button about 6 times on the 280 mile journey today.

Any ideas?

I had this problem once sometime ago. Disconnected the battery and reset the alarm and it has not happened since.

Just found a very loose wiring plug into the M99 box under the dash.
Fingers crossed that was all it was smile

I had exactly the same problem 4 weeks ago and after stopping on the way home the alarm/immobiliser would not unset and the AA had to bring me home on a low-loader. I called out an electrician to fix it and it turned out to be a corroded alarm fuse carrier under the top of the dash and it only took a squirt of WD40 and a new fuse to fix (the two bolts on the passenger side are above the storage flap under the dash - difficult to see but easy enough to remove)
