After reading up on the "help please" thread.. it occured to me that I don't have an immobilizer key. I brought that up to the dealer that sold me the car, and he said it wasn't a big deal. Now I'm realizing that it probably is...

What will it take to get another one? Any ideas? I have only had the car a couple months, and it has a one year (third party) warranty.

Is it a Meta, if so, just press the key fob quickly when sat in your seat and the imobiliser will disarm. If its another make, kick up a stink.

I assume it's a Meta. It was fitted as original equipment. The car is a 98 S reg. My worry is that the immobilizer will pack up, and I will have no way to get home.

Or, if like mine and few others in these pages your alarm box goes dodgy (meta - separate alarm/immobiliser connected together, seems to be a common fault), you won't be able to deactivate the immobiliser and you'll be stranded.

After you've unlocked the doors you have something like 10 seconds to switch on the ignition otherwise the immobilisor kicks in. You can deactivate by either a quick press of the fob or by inserting the immobilisor "key" into the "keyhole" adjacent to the ignition keyhole. If you dont have an immobilisor "key" you will only have a problem if the fob battery goes flat - but then you wont be able to open the doors of deactivate the alarm anyway!

The only way to get a new one is to remove the alarm and send it to Meta via a dealer who may be able to supply a new key and reprogram the immobiliser. However the immobiliser is a sealed and that might be it. New immobiliser time!
