Before forking out for a new sensor just asking others opinion.
The speedo works but gets progressively worse until it goes no higher than 50 mph. The odometer is inaccurate by the same degree ( checked by sat. Nav). Cleaned and moved sensor closer to the cage on the prop. Can't go closer or it touches. Early 4.0

Any thoughts?

From memory I think there were two different sensors. When mine went the speedo just stopped and it took a fair amount of work to sort it out.

Comments at the time were that they have a certain lifespan and then fail.

Mine was like yours speedo unreliable, had it off cleaned, readjusted gap loads of times to no avail.i would get a new one on, save the skint knuckles and sore back.Mine is the sensor mounted on the diff, there is another type mounted on the driveshaft.
