Received a circular from Dan Taylor at Taylor TVR this morning to say that Carl Baker will be spending a day there to fix alarm issues and sort out a mod for a key fob boot release/ hot start issues... considering the amount of alarm/ immobiliser related posts on here recently, it may be welcome news to some of you!

He is indeed. I just don't have time at the mo to get him to sort my car's immobiliser. He's back quite a lot in the UK he was saying. was also really interesting to talk to him about the modwise 'mods'. Basically the hot start mod is a disaster waiting to happen..

I had a very similar conversation with him. I don't remember it verbatim, but Carls thought was that the hot start mod does not cure the problem rather circumvent it so the potential failure is still around the corner.
I don't suffer from the problem myself so in all honesty didn't store it in the grey cells for too long. Give him a call I know he'd be happy to talk about it.

Yep exactly that. Basically it masks the problem. He definitely loves to chat haha. Was on the phone for half hour

Before he went to France I asked him to sort out a second key for me. H tried to talk me into £500 worth of alarm update and when I said I only wanted a key he stopped responding to me.

Doesn't sound like the Carl I know - if anything he had too much work and tried not to get involved in anything more than necessary.

I have no hidden agenda and never met or spoken to Mr Baker other than regarding the possibility or an additional fob. I am just sttsing my disapointment. If Mr Baker would like to supply me with a fob at the commercial rate I will be delighted.

i have to stick up for carl. he knows these cars inside out. their alarms were st from the factory, and he knows even small addons can even screw things up. given how much pissing about he did to upgrade my alarm and install a nav and some new speakers, you have to understand that nothing is ever easy on a tvr. to that end i can understand why he says that if you have the original alarm, replacing it is a good use of his time... that said, i guess he should be clearer why... but i know he has the best intentions.

Carl did mine in February. It's a 1 day job but it also includes not just a new Meta alarm system but a proper hot start solution and a remote boot release off the fob.
No bodges, just a very thorough, professional job. Don't see how he or his work can be faulted TBH. scratchchin

You don't have to defend his work. I have no experience of it.
Carl was very thorough in his explanation of why he wanted to do the upgrade. I declined and said all I needed was an additional fob. As I said, he then lost interest and stopped communicating with me.

TVR's 'st from the factory' alarm has worked well on my car for the past 13 years (a;beit I have probably just jinxed it).

I'm not saying it won't fail in the future but I'm a great believer in 'if it ain't broke...'.

Abacus sem to offer a comprehensive service based upon an initial open menu price list so I will try them.

Chris1972, Sorry, I didn't mean to invade the thread or pour cold water on your suggestion.
