Hi all,
Having searched here and elsewhere I cannot find any information regarding dismantling and cleaning the 5AM air flow meter (Land Rover part). Are these sensors (the hot wire element) supposed to be cleaned during the service? I see from other forums that folks are spraying contact cleaner or carb cleaner onto the element on modern MAF sensors in order to improve running/starting problems.
Having tested mine following the instructions provided in the ACT Performance technical data sheet (thank you, very informative) I find that the voltage overshoots the 0.3-0.34 voltage, when switching the ignition on, by quite some way before settling back to 0.34V after a few seconds. According to the data sheet this indicates a defective AFM! Does this simply mean it needs cleaning or replacing?
Your collective knowledge would be most appreciated.
P

Update for anyone who read my topic and wondered...?

I spoke with Mark (blitzracing) today and the voltage 'spike' I encountered when testing the MAF sensor is normal. The ACT technical note does not state that (??) but on Mark's g33 website he quotes Mark Adams who refers to an 'ignition on' voltage spike and therefore I conclude that my MAF sensor is OK.

HTH for anyone wanting to test their sensors.

Heres a normal start waveform showing the spike, at 1 second per division. It also shows the voltage before the engine is started, followed in this case by the idle voltage of 1.62 volts on a 3.9. once the engine has started. Bigger engines will be fractionally higher.
