Just back from a quick trip, noticed the charging light flickering on & off & dim. Did rev up to 3-4K, but light is either dim/bright...not completely off.
Last time it happened I did check all terminals at alternator end, & was OK for week or two. Have changed main 120A fuse & holder a month ago & main belt. Alternator going?, gone? It's a 99 400.Thanks

Sounds like a diode problem in the alternator

Have you checked the output fom the alternator with a multimeter with the engine running? You should be getting high 13 or low 14 volts from the terminal at the back that is attached to the thick cable.

Thanks! Yes alternator charging fine...just took off & re-attached all alternator leads again-light's gone out & all seems OK??
Very odd...shall I leave alone, & see how it goes??

Sounds like an answer.
If it starts to get sluggish starting, check the 100 amp fuse under the car - and I mean take it out and put it back. A fine crack can be hard to spot in dim light.
If you want to do one more test now, check without the engine running that you are getting 12volts at the alternator - ie check your 100 amp fuse the easy way.
