All,

I intend replacing my cracked wooden veneer dash this weekend and if anybody who has done this can help with the dash top removal (or even install of the new dash....) that lives within an hour or so of Tetbury, Gloucestershire, beer tokens are on offer.

I have got the Leven stainless steel dash and intend on getting new Heater LED's from Ebay. I'm just concerned that everywhere I read on the forum, getting the top off is a bd of a job and you can rip the top of it if not careful.

Any assistance most welcome.

Karl

Too far away to physically help you with the job but I've got lots of pictures and can talk you through it if that'd help. It's a bit fiddly and time consuming but not that difficult.

I live a bit further than 1 hour from you but if you can get it over to me at the weekend, I'm happy to help.

I replaced my dash 2 months ago, it's a bit fiddely but with new heater LEDs, it's not a job that carries risk of damage

Alex told me to get a ratchet ring spanner with a flexible head, 10 mm, to get the nuts off the dash top retaining bolts. Remove the under dash pouch first. Check the previous owner hasn't already replaced the nuts with wing nuts before you buy the spanner.
Pull the dash off carefully. The bolts don't go in the same direction as each other. The driver's side one was born out of wedlock.

Don't be to concerned about the LED's. They are a one piece unit and shouldn't need changing. On the earlier dash, the hardest bit is getting the heater fan off of the switch behind it. There is a little clip on the switch that isn't obvious how to remove!

And wingnuts are useful too, especially if you like to fly by the seat of your pants. wink
