Why does the fuel light only come on when it`s full, is it just a TVR thing smile

Wheres the fuel light? Mine only reads half a tank when full so then I get the excitement of guessing how much I've got left over the remaining half when the gauge reads empty. I would fix it but then I would have a more accurate idea of how much fuel I'm using, ignorance is bliss biggrin

Oh I see ,I`m special am I ? smile The fuel light is in the gauge, it reads 7/8th full when brimmed & bottoms out with 2.5 gallons left, so it seems.

Mine only reads 7/8ths when it's brimmed, never manage to get more than about 46 litres in from empty on the gauge so I've probably got a lot more range than I think, but I'm not brave enough to find out. I wouldn't mind having a fuel light.

FWIW, my 99 car's fuel gauge is seemingly reasonably accurate. When it is full it reads full.
I have resisted running completely out of fuel, so cannot be totally certain where empty is, but like virtually every ther car I have owned, it goes down faster at the low end, so 50% on the gauge is really 45%, and 25% is really about 18%.

I got 53 litres in mine on the way back from Goodwood, had been running on `empty` for a while but fuel stations just were not coming up, was quite relieved to find one in the end. I think I had less than 1/2 a gal. in the tank but the light did not come on. I think my sender is in upside down smile

You could put a 5 litre can of fuel in the boot and see what happens - but I am pleased to see that most TVR drivers don't actually sleep in their anoraks, and clearly that includes you and me. Most I have ever got in was 54 litres.

I have an emergency can in thr boot, normally get a smell of petrol from somewhere a few miles before it runs out and then a stutter from going around a corner or up a hill. I've never managed to completely run out, it gives you plenty of warning signals smile

That's what I've done which reminds me I must buy a funnel as no way can I get the fuel in without making a mess due to position of the griff's petrol cap!

  • chuckle* If I fill up when the warning light comes on I get about 45 litres in before she's full ...
... then the fuel gauge shows empty for about 50 miles before starting to flick the needle between "full" and "empty" eventually settling and working correctly when about 3/4 full. smile

Mine's the other way, the only car I've had where the gauge moves quickly to start with (maybe 35 miles and it's reading 3/4) then eeks it out when getting low. I can't remember what car, but I've seen a gauge which has unevenly spaced out divisions which are closer together nearer the full end as if to counteract this effect. Yup, definitely in full anorak mode.

I got 55 litres of LPG in mine, pretty happy with that.

Then I stuck 32 litres of the expensive stuff in my auxiliary petrol tank just in case wink

Then I stick the roof in the boot cos the sun was shining cool

Then I put some shopping in too, that sat in there a treat next to my tools and emergency spares.

Seeing I had some space left over I removed my overnight bag from the rear parcel shelf and chucked that in the boot too.

It's like a tardis in there nuts
