Seen this today ,airfilter fitted in a completely different position .Any advantages ?

No they're not, they're not designed like normal cone filters sucking from the engine bay. They are sealed units and get a cold air feed from wherever you put the pipe, like the tvr system but the filter is half way up the pipe instead of hanging out the front. I've seen people use them as a snorkel system on off road stuff, theres quite a few variants about.



I suppose it will stop the filter getting wet seeing as its not hanging out the front of the car, but they look a lot smaller than our standard ones.

Saw one of those on a 4.6 wedge a few years ago in the BBWF on the rolling road. It made(for arguments sake) 230bhp with the cone cover on. Once they tried the cone cover off (with filter in engine bay) it made 245 or something similar.

The cone cover turned out to be a big restriction... yes
