Had the normal click several times on start up.
Decided to investigate, wire straight to the solenoid, still clicking indicating starter motor problem.
Removed starter, completely stripped down to brushes and gears, all ok just a bit grubby.
Stripped the solenoid completely all ok.
Everything cleaned as new and rebuilt, bench tested and spot on.
Refitted to the car,new connectors etc.
Started spot on first couple of times then back to clicking.
Time to put thinking cap on.
Removed ignition covers and spotted slight short when key turned.
Removed connection fitting and the ignition assembly and worked out the problem.
The assembly, which is plastic is held in place by 2 minute grub screws, one is accessible and one was not even fitted, hence the movement when the key was turned.
Loctite and new grub screw fitted with also a cable tie for good luck.
Everything very tight and good connections made, turned key and what a beauty.
Starts like new, also made a heat blanket to protect the starter and just come back from a 2 hour drive with several hot starts etc and all spot on.

Need some advice on another issue, please check my next post.
Cheers

Hi, I have exact same issue, need to turn key 1 to 20 times (click each time)until eventually the motor turns. IS this the same as your issue? If so, is yours still "fixed" or did the problem re-emerge.

Thanks
Dave
