Hi all
There is a megasquirt bundle deal on eBay from v8 developments, I haven't had any experience with ecus really so got a few questions. Is this bundle easy enough to install, im a sparky so following wiring diagrams aren't new to me but programing a ecu is. Once fitted using the best guess map will it still be beneficial over the standard ecu in terms of throttle response power and mpg?
Can the megasquirt ecu be easily used to run a itbs setup or a turbo/supercharged setup if I decide on either of those in the future?
On the best guess map, will there be any issues with the emissions for mot?
Is this kit good value for money? And has anybody had any hands on experience with it?
Its the full kit for £989 fuel and spark control.
Just trying to decide if this is something should spend on.
Thanks in advance
Rich

Have a word with Dale Bladen at Bailey Performance. He supplied and fitted mine for less than that. Including mapping on the rolling road it was £1200.The chim now runs like a dream so much smoother than before That was last January so it may be a bit more now.

As a matter of interest... was the improvement worth the investment ?

Yes I would say it worth the investment. Drivability is much improved, response is improved and also MPG. Power is also up but as the pre cats were removed at the same time I could not say if it was due to the Megasquirt or not. It will happily drive along at low revs without any shunting and does not use the unreliable stepper motor which is another plus. It is also able to cope with future mods such as cam changes or turbo / superchargers. all in all a good investment.

Hmmm it seems as if some love it and some hate it. I like the look of it as I should be able to install it all myself and using their best guess map it should be better than stock and cope with future mods too. Emerald ecu has been recommended also, which is easier to install bearing in mind that I like to do as much of the work myself if possible. Obviously I cant rolling road tune it myself but will do once future mods are completed. Like said I like the look of it as its a kit that they say includes everything

A best guess map or base map is only that, it probably wont run too great on it compared to how it will be after a proper mapping session.

You will notice a good improvement in all areas. My advice would be find out who you are going to get to map it and go with whatever ecu they prefer. At the end of the day it will only be as good as the person mapping it.

I went with Emerald. Brilliant piece of kit and very user friendly when finding your way round the ecu. As said it will only be as good as the person mapping it so go with their preference.

+1 on that. Go with the preference of the bloke who is mapping it, its no good picking a system that only a couple of people near you can map and they're both useless hehe

I used the emerald for my chim rebuild which is supercharged main reason for choosing the emerald is the backup from them is second to none plus they have a very good rolling road setup and are near to me in norfolk highly reccommended.

Id ask Daz on that one!

Being realistic, if the car drives well, and does not shunt, the improvements will be pretty marginal for a considerable outlay, plus you are still using most parts of a very old wiring loom. I need to quantify this by saying this is against a well sorted 14CUX, but there are plenty out there that dont run so well for a multitude of reasons.

I had to have the megasquirt sorted on my wedge due to a shoddy installation, Dale sorted it all out and live mapped the setup, doing far more work than he quoted me for. The result was excellent, the car used to overfuel badly but now its spot on and makes more power a torque to boot. I'd recommend Dale to anybody thinking of fitting megasquirt, get the job done properly, and it will pay you back many times over.
