One of mine has a slight crack in it. Its holding up okay, but ideally do with replacing. Is this a job that can be done at home or is it better for a garage?

How do you go about doing it? Jack the engine and then replace? I can't see it being this straight forward tbh!

Straight forward, support engine weight, and a bit of a wiggle as said.

A 17mm ratchet spanner makes life easier.

Thanks Peter. Where is the best place for the jack? Under the sump?

Make sure you spead the weight with a heavy plank of wood on the sump, if your doing both remember the offside has a spacer

Have a look at the uprated ones sold by sc power. Probably going to try these on mine next as my standard ones are already sagging slightly.

If you go for the sc ones make sure they are the heat proof ones!

The original rubber ones are fine, if you can find them!

Theres no way i would ever jack up using the sump.

I've done mine and its a pain but can be done ok,just remove the wheels, support on the chassis rails and make sure the bolts are in good condition before replacing or just renew.

Then use the jack with a piece of timber to move the engine slightly as required

I used the rimmer mounts and they are good.

I made a heatproof blanket to go around the mounts so they should last much longer.

Cheers

Where did you support on the engine then? There's not much room in front of the sump.

I jacked it using sump with wooden plank and it worked fine, but don't lift it to far as the plenum will start to push on the scuttle.
I found the driver side mount quite a struggle as it's very tight, I used SC Power's version and found them a little larger than the standard mounts, with corners that needed smoothing to fit, the studs were longer as well, also requiring "adjustment". smile

From memory I believe I used a small scissor jack on the front pulley iirc.

you are only supporting the engine not jacking the whole car up.
A piece of wood is fine

Been under the car all-day and had a look.

If i recall i used a piece of wood from the jack up-to the engine just above the mounts and onto a solid piece of metal.

Cheers
