I've had a petrol smell as previously posted,so today i intended to get stuck in.

Wow what a job, talk about overkill on cable ties and inaccessible jubilee clips.

Okay,
Drained fuel tank.
Removed fuel pump and filter.
Removed complete copper pipe and all hoses from filter upto regulator.
Removed complete copper pipe and all hoses from regulator to return.
Cut breather pipe.
Unbolted fuel tank assembly.

Conclusions,
Fuel pump is looking in pretty poor condition,it also looks like i wont be able to service it but may take a closer look in a few days.
The terminals are showing signs of corrosion and part of the wiring requires sorting.
The copper pipe on the return was kinked above the anti-roll bar, very similar to a previous post but not quite so severe, this has been like that from day one.

Way forward.
Bin the copper pipes and replace with good quality high pressure hose in one complete run down both sides.Run the hose carefully to avoid pinch and potential heat problems.
Renew the pipework inside the boot etc.
Service or replace fuel pump.
Renew filter and put a pre filter into the system before the pump.
Dump the carbon can and find a suitable run for the breather pipe with filter attached.

Ideas.
Best place to source a new fuel pump, standard or maybe a cerbera pump but does it supply the same flow rate.
Has anyone got any thoughts so far, especially on binning the copper tubing?

Cheers

I cant offer any help but keen to know what you find I have an intermittent fuel smell - I am pretty sure its either coming from the vents into the boot or somewhere under the car, the fuel pipes in the engine bay were replaced at the last service earlier this year.

I have an idea I don't get the smell when the tank is full only when 3/4 or under...maybe my imagination.

Just my opinion but i would not replace the copper pipe with fuel hose on its entire length.
Maybe some other alternative material, stainless steel or whatever, instead of the copper, but not all replaced with fuel hose.
Even fuel hose over a period of time will degrade with age and that means splits and leaks.
If it was that easy, im sure TVR would have run each flow and return as a complete hose.....but they never did.
The copper pipe and bits of fuel hose here and there is not ideal, but unless someone has a better idea, thats also cost effective, i personally would stick with it.
It far easier every few years to replace 2 hoses in the engine bay and the ones around the filter/pump and the return hose, than to have to replace the entire length every few years......Just my opinion.

You could change the engine bay one`s for these .

I would upgrade the wiring to the pump and rip the carbon canister out and leave a little breather by the diff. Thats probably where the smell is coming from ...the Carbon canister.

I agree with TJC46
And when I replaced all my fuel lines a couple of years ago I used copper where they used to be copper.
If you look how tight it is where the copper lines run its too tight for comfort for a rubber hose to rub against body movements
