my chim has a normal exhaust but I have been thinking of an upgarde to the sports exhaust.
Other than a great growl from the V8 are there any other benefits to performance etc. I have read some of the threads but none seem to say what the bebnefits are other than noise.... thats enough I suppose.

I thought it could reduce performance slightly if you don't get the ECU tweaked at the same time as it presumably changes the backpressure given by the exhaust.
apparently, although in most cases it seems it makes no difference. If anything though, yes, more likely to lose power than gain any.

oh, mine has been "converted" and sounds the dogs danglies. But in terms of the question "does it do anything other than sound good", the answer remains no.
I guess the upside is the sound. The downside is potentially reduced bhp and, more importantly (and likely) that the car wont be able to get on the track as standard - you "may" get on the track using bolt on silencers.

Picked mine up from Thames Valley Racetech yesterday after having the conversion done (through pipes). They did a great job and it sounds fantastic, quiet malevolence at idle but the devil possessed at high revs - love it!
Oh and nice popping and some crackling on overrun and gear change... As far as insurance goes I didn't have any problem with Tescos. I was honest with them and they gave me a list of options and as mine made no discernable performance difference there was no increase in the premium. I am not sure if it'll appear on my premium notes though. Best to talk to them and be honest before getting it done.

Unfortunately, I just called my insurance co and despite the fact that there will be no power gain, they still want an extra £150 from me if I get the mod done

The noise is the thing. I suppose in theory the loss of back pressure gives a small loss in bhp.When I had this done to my 500 I felt a small loss in torque but as there was buckets available it was no big deal.Main effect was to on many instances increase the aggro factor when I overtook. I would imagine that it is possible to replace the tubes by slightly smaller diameter ones to minimise this torque loss. SP&C is great but not very efficient. I increase it by resting very lightly on the accelerator when coasting.
