1998 4 litre - Lucas wiper motor has burnt out and apparently TVR do not make the part any more.

Any ideas where I can get a new one? Or failing that a reconditioned unit?

Cheers

Have you tried sourcing from TVR main dealers (Barnet / Castles) or third party service centres (Offords etc) ?

Wiper motor is on most Jags, Triumphs..... Lucas dealer should have the motors/parts, the thing specific to TVR is the gear wheel I believe. The motor, park switch, housing is pretty generic (there are early single speed varieties I believe).

You have to split the casing to remove the wiper motor, just extract the actual motor and disconnect the park switch - the Lucas service people will recognise the part then.

When i had to replace the limit switch on my chim ,isoursed the part from a mini, i was told that is where the whole assembly is from.

Are you sure it is not just a problem with the park switch? Given the cost it is probably worth changing anyway to see if this cures the problem.

No, I've had it apart and the motor is burnt out.

Get the Lucas number off the motor, on the metal part, not the plastic bits. The sort of numbers we are talking about are something like 75785 any letter after this are not important. This is not the number it will be sold as, the B90 number for 75785 is LRW110 for instance. The biggest problem you would have is if the plastic gear is damaged, they vary on angle of sweep.
If you need any more feel free to mail me.

The other day, on fast speed, my wipers suddenly went very slow and made a burning smell. Switching to standard speed they were fine. However they did the same thing later on intermittent.

Have I got the same problem?

I'd concur that the motor itself is a common part, and is fitted to pretty much all minis. You should be able to get a half decent one from any scrap yard!

The plastic gaer wheel will need to be swapped as suggested.
