So, just picked car back up from having it sprayed (looks amazing - best she has ever looked!) and on the way home, she started cutting out.

It was fine when I picked her up, got through about 40min worth of stop/start traffic and then got onto an open road and was able to open her up. I was on this road for about 15 minutes, and as I got to the end of it and came up to stop for the roundabout, the revs dropped and she cut out.

She restarted fine, but did this another 4 or 5 times on the journey home - when moving, there wasn't a problem at all. I was able to save it occasionally by revving it, but this didn't always stop the cutting out.

Restarted fine every time as well, straight away.

Any thoughts as to what could be causing it?

I've been without her for a few weeks now, in the best weather, and just want to enjoy! Very pesky.

Check your stepper motor and also the throttle butterfly/ idle adjustment screw, the butterfly can stick slightly causing a stall so can the stepper motor

When mine did this it was linked to the speedo sensor - '97' BTR diff.

Could be something as simple as the battery connections being loose or corroded, I had a similar issue as the battery wasn't bolted down tight and moved on sharp cornering and braking.

Hi DL

Sounds like a stepper motor issue to me

If you search on this you will see loads of similar stories.

Got so fed up with mine I blanked off the bypass and rely on the manual idle setting, can be a little tricky to keep running after cold start, but live with this as not a daily runner

Thanks all. I did kind of think stepper motor. Where is it located exactly? At the weekend I'll pull it and give it a clean.

I may replace the coil and ignition amp while I'm there as well, since a bit of searching has pointed at them being a possible cause. I do have spares of those as well, so its probably worthwhile.

Also check the vacuum hoses connected to the plenum, could be an air leak, one of them may not be fully tight
