Would the more experienced say the below CV joint is worn too much to continue using ? This is the N/S outer (hub) joint. The inner (diff) joint looked perfect.

If I was to replace it, it is worth doing them in pairs ?

I'm not good enough to spot whether your cv's are worth reassembling or not but I think for what they cost just buy some new ones then forget them for a good few years. After all its not the easiest job in the world plus you'll most likely have to reset your geometry as well, so it would seem a false economy to put the old ones back.
If you decide to replace these people sell the original GKN jobbies.

Wot e said.

"Renew everything you touch" is my motto.

These cars are all old and unless you have assurance that they have recently been renewed then fit and forget.

bks !

Ok, more money to be spent then. Cheers for your thoughts chaps, guess it does make sense whilst its all apart.

Would I need to remember/mark up which drive shaft is which to make sure they go back the same way, or would it not matter when changing all the joints ?

Yes! Mark up drive shafts and make sure they go back the way they were.

Can't see it making a difference due to large weighty joints at each end.

Saying that, it can't do any harm.

They form a 'twist' over time and if you reverse that 'twist' they can snap easily

Ah, I see.

I thought that what was meant was marking the position like you would mark a prop.

Take the point about swapping left to right.

That's something that I never would have considered, but now it's been pointed out it seems to makes perfect sense.

Just the other day people were on here bemoaning the fact that the forum was no longer informative, not so!

Just to add, when I did my CV's earlier this year I did mark the driveshafts and put them back as they came off, but that was purely down to me being very very sad.

+1, great point. Never considered they may end up with a natural twist. Will refit as they came off.

Thanks thumbup
