Starting procedure - immobiliser.
Discussion
This might seem a bit basic but can someone tell me the correct starting procedure with the standard Chim immobiliser? It's a 97 with a plastic 'memory card' type thing that I can put into a hole next to the ignition.
This is my issue:
When I start the car for the first time, I put the memory card in its hole, turn the ignition key and car starts. It starts every time. However if I sit in the car for a few minutes without trying to start it, when i do eventually try and start the car and and turn the key, often the fuel pump will not prime and the car won't start. Sometimes it will prime if I put the memory card thing Ito its hole, sometimes it won't.
I often end up getting out of the car, locking it and the unlocking it and starting all over again. It always starts this way.
I think I'm probably doing something wrong with the memory card thing so if someone can tell me the correct procedure, i'd appreciate it.
Thanks.

The immobiliser will reset itself automatically after about a minute. So you'll need to deactivate it again if you don't start the car almost immediately after getting in. There should be a red led by the immobiliser socket which flashes when the immobiliser is active. This is different to the one on the dash which is linked to the alarm system.
Thanks all. This immobiliser is sounding more and more like an immobiliser fitted to a Subaru I used to have. Complete PITA. Once you had buckled the children into the back seats, you had to deactivate the immobiliser again as it had reactivated itself.
Thanks for the tip about not needing the memory card thingy and pushing the alarm when the ignition is in the 'On' position.
I'll give these a try.

I suppose the advantage of the Chimaera isn't there aren't any rear seats to cable tie the children to.
For what it's worth the process I use is this.
Key fob button - unlocks car, get straight in and start in less than 15-60 seconds (or whatever the time is).
If it doesn't start (I've taken too long), ign on, key fob button press, pump primes then start car.

That's what I wanted to know, a great summary of the above, and thanks. For what it's worth the process I use is this.

However, once I unlock the car I often have to do the seatbelt for my 6 year old in her child seat - she loves the Chim. (She calls it Gaston from Ben and Holly as its red with a black roof- you'll understand if you have small kids
). One thought. Unlock the car, key straight into the ignition, switch the ignition on.
THEN faff about as much as you like, and the car will still start.
Or go to Carl Baker and have the whole lot changed. My new Meta gives me 60 seconds to start the car, but I cannot plip the immobiliser. If I miss the minute,I have to lock and unlock. But I do get a boot release on the key......which is still a fat lot of use if I leave my keys in the boot and slam the lid away from the spare set.

If you do press the fob button to disarm the immobiliser when the ignition is on, I have to hold the button for 2 seconds for it to work.
Another point is to make sure that the ignition is on when you do it as if its not then the doors will lock, then you will turn the ignition on to press the button and the alarm will start to sound. Then you will curse and panic and get all confused about whats on or off and locked and just get out of the car and start again. Or is it just me that does that?

You shouldn't need to use the immobiliser key as well. Just turn the ignition to the on position and give the button on the fob a quick press and this disables the immobiliser. The push key is for emergency use - for example if the battery in the fob goes flat.

Well. Stone the crows! I can't wait to test this.
