I am due to go on holiday shortly! In total I will be doing around 800miles may be more! I am undecided weather to take the chim or my oil burner company car!

With the chim there is the additional fuel costs and I am concerned it may get damaged in the tight county roads and the fear of potential issues although all is running well! On the other hand that's what the car is for to be used and it would put a smile on my face! The other thought is the money I save on fuel using my company car I could put back in the chim for nice shiney leven accessories!

What would you do??

No point having a tvr to sit pretty...

Saving money would be appealing but hearing that exhaust noise is worth it all the way :-)

You want to enjoy your holiday?

Then make your decision based on the attitude of your other half toward the car, assuming you are going with the other half.....

The Chimaera is a driver's car, not a passenger's car. You may have fun, but will the other half? Don't forget the lack of passenger leg room. You don't want your entire trip spoiled by the annoying noise coming from the passenger seat "I'm cold, can we have the roof on please?", "My bum/legs/back/neck aches, can we stop again?" "I'm too hot with the sun on me and no aircon" etc etc

I drive my Chimaera most days, 12 months of the year, and do 10,000 miles + a year in it, take it to work sometimes, go for country drives, take it on the track and absolutely love it. But mainly on my own.

But if WE are going to South Wales to see the relatives, 350 mile return trip with the risk of time spent stuck in motorway jams, then it's the Audi A8 diesel auto that gets selected - much quieter, great air-suspension ride, really comfortable heated, electric reclining seats, a stereo you can actually hear, and that superb auto box for inching forward in traffic jams, plus cruise control for the boring bits at 45 mpg.

The moral of this being ; go on holiday on your own in the Chim . Sorted biggrin

My wife and I went on a ring trip last summer, it was really special.

Hood down every day, beautiful countryside, loads of great roads and my wife really loved it, so much so that we are doing another one soon!

Take it!

Peter and I are both right - only you know your wife.
Mine is lovely and enthusiastic about my car, but just doesn't enjoy travelling in it.
Peter's clearly does.
So decide which your wife is and choose the correct weapon for the trip. confused

QBee's answer is the same as mine would be, had he not typed it first! Well, with the exception of the bit where it says about the A8 doing 45 MPG, because mine certainly doesn't! hehe

It appears that some of you gentlemen either;
1) need to train your wives / partners better or
2) invest in quality earplugs or
3) learn selective hearing

The first option, while in most cases a necessity to a greater or lesser degree, may also have it's limits; based upon your ability to 'teach' and the capacity of the lady in question to 'learn'.

The second option while crude, will suit the newer members of the fraternity, but may require the addition of protective head gear once your chosen passenger has learned what you are doing.

The third option is best combined with the first option for maximum effect and pleasure.
It should not be a struggle to learn this technique; as any woman can tell you, you have a natural talent for this already.
If however you are finding this last option difficult, observe your children; they are invariably masters in the trade.

Cautionary notes;
Please note that the 'borrowing' of children, to assist you in mastering the third technique, will not be nearly as effective if their parents are not present for you to observe the natural interaction.
As a final caution on this point; the borrowing of children (without the parents), may well be frowned upon where you live.

It all depends on where you're going, what the country smells like and the quality of the roads....

.....But either way, regardless of any potential nagging you may suffer, at no point will you pull up at the side of the road to look at the views or at a restaurant and think "God, I wish I'd brought my oil burner company car" In the oil burner, you'll spend the week being grumpy for not having the Chim, you'll get snappy towards your other half because subconciously it'll be her fault, it'll end up in an argument and you'll come home having had just as much grief regardless of car you take! At least if you take the Chim it'll be on your side.

Take the Chim. If it doesn't work out with your other half, she's not for you.

Frenchie, mine has done 12,000 miles in 15 months, and is at Cadwell park this evening getting more battering and adding 200 miles.
But the sad fact is that we are older than you and my lovely slim, fit, healthy wife (who is deaf, so noise is definitely not an issue) simply doesn't like travelling in it, she finds it harsh, bumpy, too hot, too cold etc etc.
Every new daily car we get has to be more comfortable and luxurious than the last. The six-speed seat heaters on the present one were greeted with great approval, as was the comfort of the electrically reclining leather armchairs.
She will happily drive the Audi A8 all over the UK, and sleep or relax when passengering in it, but won't go on holiday in the TVR. She is perfectly happy for me to go off in my toy, so I will doubtless see you some time soon.....on my own!

Qbee,

I was in a similar situation as you: my partner does not like travelling in the Chimaera: she like the look of it, but she is does not like it as noisy, ratly, shaky, we can’t heard much of each other’s when we speak, etc…. mind you she does like driving it, she rather drive it than be a passenger…

But, we had a little lad just over 3 months ago, and now she does not get to come in the Chimaera as there is no room for 3 people…

…. Actually, mine is becoming more and more of a garage queen… before she was being used at weekends and holidays (live in London and we have a family car and my daily driver is a Vespa…), so I’ll take be taking any opportunity to jump in the Chimaera when i can…

Hot1, no probs, I understand… Have a great holiday in the oil burner, glad to know that your Chimaera is not a garage Queen…

All the best, Frenchie
