I removed mine with the manifolds in-situ, makes it a bit more awkward & time consuming but obviously saves the time & effort (& risk of shearing a bolt / stud etc.)It can be done, remove lambdas either way & allow a couple of hours or so each side. If leaving manifolds on take care not to knock too much debris toward the exhaust ports & attach an old pillowcase each side before staring up (before refitting y-piece) It does make a difference but I would seriously consider removing main cat as well although that's only practical by cutting the section out, removing cat & welding back into place. Or buy a decatted y-piece and keep the original in case of MOT issues ! Any queries let me know, although loads of experience on this forum on this subject.

Total PITA!

It involves bashing, smashing, swearing, sweating and much effort to get the b@stards loose. Mine came free only in annoyingly small pieces although just when you think you've had enough and you'll get someone else to do it they will come loose! I don't know how you'd do it with them on the car - was hard enough with mine off. Good luck though!

Off the car, in the vice, bash out with lump hammer and crowbar like tool with a curved end to get around the corner. I did one in an hour like this. It makes masses of bits and dust that you really don't want inside the engine. You can hit it pretty hard. Just when you think the bulk of it will never come out it happens.
