car wouldn't start
Discussion
Hi, advice please.
Used the Chimaera over the weekend without problem, in fact used it for last two years without problems really, but today went to start it and nothing. All dash lights show, fuel pump working, head lights strong etc etc, just nothing to the starter.
Although flat battery not expected, I did connect the charger to it for a couple of hours.
Came back and it started first time without problem, no sluggishness, no nothing.
Could it be something else or just a flat battery?
Thanks

I've had this with a "loose" battery connection before. When I say loose, it was way more than hand tight. For some reason I really needed to get the spanner on it to get it to work. THe battery was tip top, and the fuel pump was loud and proud, just not enough to crank over. As I said, a wiggle and two turns with a spanner sorted it
Sounds like a dodgy earth to me, or a dodgy live connection.
If it had been hot and had turned over but not started, it would be different, but you said there was simply nothing to the starter even though the battery seemed fine.
On the battery front, if it is over five years old, then go to a battery place and have it thoroughly checked. Mine seemed ok, but came up bad on their equipment, and after the £90 change the new one was a world better.
I think the two hours charging is a red herring, except you may have made a better battery terminal connection as a side effect of clipping the charger on, so check your battery terminals.
