Hi all

Have managed to get myself slightly confused on the correct CV joint assembly. Of the 2 below pics which one is correct ? My money is on the second but knowing the day I've had thats probably wrong ...

Also, when originally disassembling, there were no inner circlips. Do I need to fit these ?

Erm, aren't both pics showing the thing assembled the same way? Correct way is for the narrow lands on the inner to point at the wider lands on the outer (which both pics seem to show?) Easy test is, if it is right it will have lots of plunge and articulation; if wrong, it will lock up with little movement.

I'd use inner circlips but I've seen them without (one on my car originally) - some shafts will not allow the joint to go beyond the splines anyway due to the profile and machining

Ah, just spotted you're referring to the shoulder on the inner (relative to the groove on the outer) - the shoulder points toward the centre of the shaft; the groove toward the outer. So pic 2 is correct

Perfect, thanks for that. Good to know I'm not going mad laugh

The first pic is how 1 of the 4 new joints I ordered from Prolinx came assembled ... Managed to pull it apart and fit it correctly. Is it just me, or are new joints with no grease censored tight ?

Anyway, cheers again.

Is that of any help:

I remember having struggled quite a bit when doing mine. I went on the internet to find picures of a dismantled/assembled joint. Once to understand how it is done, it is a piece of cake to reassemble.
