Have been considering on changing gearbox to R380 ... but is there a lot of alterations or will it just fit in just like LT77 which is what I have ... so I am told as reverse is left and up ... anyone out there changed gearboxes ... Thanks Mike ...

T5 change is doable but the chassis needs altering on the top rail cross bars as the linkage goes right over the top of the chasis plus the fiberglass tunnel top is raised to accept it if you where doing a chassis body of rebuild would be no problem otherwise it is very labour intensive.

On a pre cat Griff with an LT77, the T5 out of a Tuscan drops ALMOST straight in without any of the linkages needed. Presume it would be the same with the Chim. No idea with a R380.

My chimaera 430 BV has the R380 box always viewed it as inferior but Im finding the gearing is sweeter always found the T5 to high or too low ratios felt so far apart, this is only what I feel when driving it may be wrong ratios may be the same could be diff I guess feel free to correct me if wrong.

the T5, is better and stronger box..... apart from the more direct gear change, rather the porridge stirring LT77 the noticable difference in gearing is 2nd.... I prefered the longer legged 2nd gear of the LT77... but prefer the more direct change of the T5....

as said Tuscan T5 box has right gear linkage for a Griff.. so in theory should be same for Chimp....... will need different bell housing, speedo and speedo sensors as LT77 runs the speedo from the gear box and this isn't possible on the T5

Oh perhaps mine is the LT77 then? reverse is left and up linkage and gear change feel sharp enough no noticeable play.

When you change from a LT77 to a T5 you will also need the small blackbox that converts the speedsignal for the ECU. This is TVR-specific and not easy to get hold of.
