Hello looking for advise please.

My roof just came undone leaving a big gap which I have just temporally placed some double sided tape to the problem.

I have posted a picture of the main damage but also picture two shows also the stitching is starting to go on the other side.

My rear window is in very good condition so IMO re-stitch is only required.

I have looked through some past threads but see nothing close to the Midlands area. I don't object to driving a fair distance if someone has had a good experience at a fair price.

Thanks TVRJAS

Hi,

Try this place in Erdington, Birmingham

http://www.donhoods.com/

They are really good, pretty cheap to, alternatively buy an automatic sewing awl from ebay about a tenner and have a go yourself I did this quiet easy to stitch

Thanks very much for your thoughts,i will give both a call tomorrow.

How much do you charge per hour Penno? idea I would end up sewing my sock to my foot if i tried. I Think that scenario tells you the idea of the sewing awl is out.
Thanks again Jason

Hello gmw9666,

I have sent email to donhoods and waiting to hear from them but I like the sound of your recommendation as they are even closer.

The job you had done was it similar problem as mine of just the stitching or did you have full replacement.

I went to the Back home event yesterday(Great by the way) and took a visit to the old factory and spoke with D&C Trim who said they would not repair and only do a Full replacement of Full Hood, rear window and seals and need the car for one week.

If I had tatty window, poor roof and leaking problems I may be tempted to part with £600 but just feel my roof is in pretty good shape and does not warrant this outlay.

Sorry for waffling a bit here but can you confirm what your job was exactly and what you paid.

Don't mind if you PM me if you don't want to talk prices on the forum.

Waiting in anticipation and kind regards sent.

My stitching has just come undone lie yours, window ok

But in speaking they have to take the material off the rear hoop to stitch on a machine (makes sense)

So I decided to gave a new rear screen all done for what I remember about £250. Even if you screen looks fine, it will stiffen so you may as well get it replaced

Other wise buy some needle and thread and do a DIY job but it will look pants

Great news thank you.

That sounds very reasonable with the window aslo thumbup

I think doing a repair with the sewing awl is a no go,it will be just a matter of time before it goes in another area,I am quite happy to pay around the figure you quoted.

Just one other question if you don't mind... Did they do it in one day or were you without for a couple of days.

A beer or 2 or wine is on me if you fancy a driving and pub one day.

The joining of this site is proofing to be it's weight in gold.

I have never heard of any of these company's and without endless hours of searching and having to take a stab in the dark,It is such an advantage in hearing from people who know exactly what I'm after.

Thank you kindly for all your comments and suggestions bow

I think it is only fair to allow donhoods the chance to reply my message but if I do not hear from them I will do some follow ups to some of the suggestions you have given.

Thanks guys,much appreciated thumbup

Hello Glen,

Just to say thank you for the tip "thehoodguy's"

Went to see them on Wednesday and straight away got a nice feel about the place.

Nice white e-type and Merc sl being worked on gave me confidence.

The price you said was on the button and have decided to have the new rear screen as it seems to make sense. I am booked in 2nd October and again as you say they can complete in the day.

Thanks again kind regards Jason
