Anyone gone from 283 to 324 brake rotors?
Discussion
I know a few are using the 324mm rotors off the Focus RS; anyone know whether the offset spacing is equivalent to the 283 Cossie discs that are commonly used. I know the thicknesses of the running surface are different 283 = 24mm / 324 = 28mm) but wonder if they're otherwise a straight swap assuming the calipers can be moved out on the same axis and have wide enough throats to accept the discs?

Alex, thanks - that's appreciated and I might take you up on it. If you have a set of verniers or a mic handy, a quick measurement of the clamped surface thickness would be very helpful in the meantime. Just where the centre hole is if that's possible.
With that I can work out how they sit relative to each other.

Hi-Spec Billet 4 pots - they are currently gapped for 24mm thickness rotors but the centre spacers can be changed easily if needs be. They have radial mounts so the 'height' is easy if the offsets are thereabouts.
Daz, these would be a good option for you, though you'd need to sort the spacing or go for the bigger cossie rotors. There's an unused gold set on ebay currently

disks were from eBay, went for standard ones as i dont like drilled/grooved they are about £50
ds2500 7 series pads (ebay again - £60)
these calipers (they are very light) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E38-7-SERIES-BREMBO-...
then this bracket which i wasn't actaully sure about but just bought it on a whim and if it doesn't fit properly i will get my mate to fabricate one which will. I should have really checked out this before buying it.

i've already got braided lines, then some blue racing brake fluid. really cheap and hopefully a massive improvement

Brett, the bracket you have bought is perfect for the application, I used those when I made the same brake upgrade earlier this year, also the same calipers from the same source.ds2500 7 series pads (ebay again - £60)

I have now completed 2000 event free miles.
The Brembo decals are low quality and peel with very little use, you can buy some new ones off eBay that use the higher quality film.

What are you running on the rear we suffered overheat mostly on the rear as solid rotors.
John
John, mine has the 273mm dia 20mm thick vented rotors - I just use M-Tec units off Ebay and have never had any issues with themJohn
Cossie specialists like Reyland do offer a 300mm two piece unit that will fit but that just seems like overkill

I had the solid discs (early setup) so purchased a pair of hubs for £30 from a Cosworth breaker in Lincolnshire then purchased new bearings .John
Managed to pick up some new callipers from ebay ,the discs are vented so it`s been upgraded to the later Chimaera spec now fitted with 272 vented on the rears .
The hub ,discs and callipers can be sold on ,it`s bolt on kit from drum to discs on the S series TVR.
Hi spec can supply bells and a bracket to fit the same calliper I have on the rear .

Every car I look at has bigger disks than mine, even Freelanders and the like.
But then I take my standard TVR ventilated disks with DS 2500 pads in them on to the track and the braking is great. I was stopping far quicker than many other cars down the hill at Cadwell, turning in early and nipping past. No fade, and i can lock up 888s in the dry, so no lack of stopping power.
In the end I don't care if they look silly so long as they don't stop silly too. And I can still get my Imolas on for road use......
I would be interested in doing a braking distance test against someone with one of these bigger set-ups in a Chimaera.

The upgrade won't stop you any quicker than the standard set up, as you say, they are capable of locking up the wheels. But then I take my standard TVR ventilated disks with DS 2500 pads in them on to the track and the braking is great. What the upgrade will do is reduce any brake fade on a track as they aren't working as hard, also less pressure on the pedal is required to achieve the same braking effect due to the size of the discs/pads, and finally, they look feckin awesome under the standard 16" wheels!
Thanks Andav. I had been puzzled by this. Decisions to make now.
It's true, I do have to stand on the brakes to lock them up. That's what it feels like ,it's s really hard push of the pedal. But that I guess is then a trade off for less sensitivity when I want just a gentle dab on the brakes to change the balance of the car on the way into a fast corner....it's the difficulty of not knowing what the next change will feel like. I only changed from standard pads to DS 2500 this month, and they feel just te same until you really need them, when they just keep on stopping the car.

I`m wondering if there is a 300mm disc for 16" wheels and a different bracket. Is it normal to have so may bolts to make the kit up. It's true, I do have to stand on the brakes to lock them up. Not sure of your geographical location, however, if you are ever close to Peterborough, give me a shout and you are very welcome to have a try in my car and see if the modification would suit your needs. It's true, I do have to stand on the brakes to lock them up.
