Got thrown out of Bedford for 103db at4000rpm ....I have bog standard chimaera 500....does anyone sell tailpipe tips to muffle sound?

My pipes measure 6.4 cm in diameter each...Argo city sell tips for the chimaera but they are 5.6cm wide....strangely.

Any help on a quick bolt-on fix gratefully received !

PS : Or should I have been noise tested at less than 4000rpm? There is no redline on the tachometer...where would it start? 5000rpm?

If the pipes are the same as a 400 then I have a set you can buy / borrow. Requires drilling one hole in each pipe.

Worried about drilling..will this cause extra noise with the silencers out?

iirc you just have to drill tiny holes in the end for grub screws to stop the silencers from falling out when you're driving

Contact V8 Monster ,he is the cheapest.

The hole in the bottom makes no difference.

Full decal ACT Y piece,no problem with these silences

If you aren't skint, ACT sell bolt on cans for about £140 delivered. You want 2.5 inch ones. They take 6-8 dB off.

Thanks all!

1) The ACT SI01 units are CLAMP ON ....I am led to believe these are LESS EFFECTIVE?

2) my left pipe appears to have a DENTED lip...this will almost certainly obstruct insertion of the silencer....since I am a fat desk jockey can a metalworker fellow Trevor-lover suggest how I would bend that straight again please?

Thanks!

If you say so. I cannot say I noticed the difference when I used them at Snetterton.

Ian, I think that's untrue.

I have never noticed a difference.

I have an ACT pair and a second pair where the inside of the silencer is the same diameter as the chims tail pipes!

How they knock about 8 DBs off is a mystery!

Think more 5hp loss and you don`t need clamps look at my picture , I use a self tapper to secure.

The noise meters do vary, but without cans my car is 102-106 dB per the track day meters. With them it's 95-101 dB. Why the variation I don't know. Now I take the cans with me to all events and use them when forced to.

I don't doubt what you say Ian, but my car feels just the same to me performance-wise with and without. I just prefer the noise without them.

I was staggered when Troy at Northampton Motorsports suggested that the TD silencers were BHP/TRQ killers when I had my remap on the rolling road. To prove his point after the car was set up we fitted the silencers and run the dyno again. Red is before black after fitting T/D silencers. The difference is there to be seen both power and torque significantly down with them fitted.

That's my own personal experience but accept other cars may react differently.

Sorry about the photo not running in landscape - IT problems tonight!!

My ACT silencers only took 3-4 bhp off my old Griff on the rollers. thumbup
