Well if you are well enough to do customer work what about work for the family?.

Oil pressure sender is normally 1/8"NPT - thats 27tpi.
1/4" is over 1/2" dia and 18tpi (threads per inch) for reference (BSP & NPT are typically around 1/2 the diameter which seems to confuse)
Plenty of thread charts on the internet so measuring diameter and counting threads per inch (or measure 10 in metric) will enable you to identify most threads with accuracy.
