Leaky diff - info please?
Discussion
2000 Chim 450, BTR diff leaking oil from the backplate joint. Was 1 drip per week, now 2 drips per day so need to do something, even if only silicon sealant on the outside as a temporary fix. (Don't have the facilities to drop the diff out myself)
Questions:
1) Is the fastener at the lowest point of the diff backplate a bolt, a drain plug or both?
2) Is there (should there be..) a gasket in the joint?
2) Torque setting for the backplate fasteners?
Thanks in advance
Paul

1. Yes but don't undo it until you have the filler loose
And use the right size spanner/ socket as it's a small head for a big bolt had loads of fun with mine last year ended up welding a 19mm nut on the end of the bolt to get it out
Check the breather at the top of the diff it may be blocked and making your drip worse
Have fun
