I have a clutch issue with my Chim. At the risk of a really stupid question, how can I tell which is the clutch reservoir and which is the brakes?

...And what spec hydraulic fluid does it need? There's a leak in the system that needs to be sorted professionally but I'm hoping I can get it working well enough to drive a couple of miles off to the TVR Centre (as was).

At the risk of a really simple answer, the clutch reservoir is above the clutch pedal and the brake reservoir is above the brake pedal. Or put even simpler, the clutch reservoir will be nearer the centre of the car. smile I'm afraid I have no idea on fluid type but any specialist will be able to tell you at the end of the phone.

Thanks gents. I thought that was the case, but I was somewhat fazed by the black cover, which is sealed down by some sort of black gunk while the brake reservoir is uncovered. Is that normal? smile

Looks like you've got a bit more missing than just the clutch fluid biggrin

The edges of the cover should be sealed with silicone sealant (or similar) otherwise rain water will fall through and dribble into the footwell. Same for the brake fluid reservoir too

Perfectly normal Chris and Dot4 is fine for the clutch

And seal that cover properly when you're done or you'll be using a bucket to get the rainwater out of the driver side footwell biggrin

Well, that answers that question. A bit of sediment in the reservoir, but not a lot else...

It hasn't been checked in a while, so I'm hoping the leak is slow enough for me to fill it up and drive it over to Bespoke at the weekend. Might take my AA card just in case.

ETA It got there. Just. Lots of smoke from leaking hydraulic fluid by the time I got to the outskirts of Ware - thought the clutch was going to expire in the traffic at one stage. At least they shouldn't have too much trouble tracking down the problem! smile
