Standard or big wheels?
Discussion
I'm going through emotional turmoil and a a problem shared and all that....
I have Estorils on my car that I am planning on refurbish over the winter OR should I break from the standard look and buy some 17” wheels instead?
I truly am torn between originality and larger wheels with better grip and the option of bigger brakes underneath.
Comments most welcome.

I went for a set of SP12's for these reasons (in order or importance) -
1. Choice of decent tyres is much better - I'm on Conti Sport Contact 3's which are far better than anything I could find in standard sizes.
2. I think they suit the Chim shape perfectly (don't like them on Griffs).
3. They have allowed for a brake upgrade to fit without any worries.
As a bonus they are slightly lighter than Estorils (according to my bathroom scales) and relatively cheap 2nd hand. I do have a full set of 16" Estorils to put back on though if ever need to sell the car.

18" back and 17" front SP12's on mine...1. Choice of decent tyres is much better - I'm on Conti Sport Contact 3's which are far better than anything I could find in standard sizes.

Ok, I will.
More grip = more fun + safety.
We know you can't go fast on our roads, cameras, hidden plod and downright bad drivers abound but taking roundabouts and bends where it's safe gives a little pleasure.
Sooo, a tasteful wheel with good quality rubber is where it's at!

I never said mine were tasteful!

I think there is something to be said for keeping 15/16" - the extra tyre definitely gives a level of comfort and I think it still looks more suited to the car. You can still fit big tyres, I have 225 front 245 rear. The brake issue is a 'non-issue' - although yes there are more options to fit anything you want inside 17+ - there are options available for 15/16" - and I still think that the brakes on some cars look 'lost' inside bigger wheels, especially on the rear.

Well, in that case,,,,,
Dropped them down to £360 .. Yes 9" are fine but I would not go any wider than 245`sQuit a few are running 9" on the rear.
If you lived closer I'd probably have them. Fancy a drive to around Birmingham area to meet me halfway?
