Help - choice of 2.

I have the choice between a 97 R Chimaera 400 at an Indy in Scotland with 37,000 on the clock. Halcyon Midas witrh blue interior. Looks pretty good condition HPI clear etc with 6 months warranty or ZZR1200's ICe Blue 97 car with 44,000. It looks sweet but has after market wheels.
Anyone any comments? Dealer car about 500/750 more expensive.

Hmmm.....well I think its a pretty impossible question based on the info' you have given.
Initial comments I would make are that the dealer car is a damn sight nearer to you! I guess it would also come with some sort of warranty? Both these factors must surely balance up the price differential?
Price looks good for cars of that age/mileage (based on ZZR's ad).
I quite like those TSW wheels, but obviously thats a personal thing.
You can see what ZZR has done to his car....what's the history of the dealer car?
I'm guessing that you are thinking that you don't want to miss out on the "perfect buy" cos its the other end of the country....but....if you've found a good one nearby, its got to be a lot less hassle....
But I know the position - been there, done that!!
I looked far and wide (on the internet), but then got frustrated by the fact that the cars I wanted to look at were so far away... So I limited myself to more local cars....then ended up buying one "the other end of the country"
As has been said so many times before, you have to buy on condition, condition and condition.

Thanks - I know I haven't provided much but was looking for general info like you offered.
When I look at them and see things like very small gaps where the fbric meets the body next to the door am I being pedantic given it is a 7/8 year old car or should I being getting stuff like that fixed? It's not a tear just the glue seems to give slightly.

Its certainly yellow, isn't it...

One other thing...you might find that you can negotiate a bigger reduction from an individual wanting/needing to sell to raise funds, than you can from a dealer.....but maybe the dealer will be looking to move stock, and a convertible isn't gonna rush out at this time of year...
I reckon if you like yellow, the condition is good, and you can buy it at the right price, then go for it!

But in another colour! I love the Ice Blue one, it's very refined and classy looking but that's only my personal preference which counts for nothing really. Yellow isn't everyone's cup of tea; I think I'd be a little concerned about being able to sell it privately at a later date but, hey, that's just my opinion and if it floats your boat, go for it.
I'd be inclined to choose the one in the best condition although, from my own point of view, having the right colour is pretty important too.

Aftermarket alloys are a matter of choice (not my cup of tea), but you should be aware that he is a good mate of mine. Can't comment on the other car...I had a Sunset Pearl (yellow) Chimaera, pic in profile, which i loved the colour of, but as has already been said its not everyones cup of tea and it was a pain in the b*lls to sell privately!
Yellow does draw a lot of attention which was great , but then again I dont think there is a TVR in the world that doesnt draw a lot of attention! At the end of the day colour and after market wheels etc are personal preferance, condition has to be what you base you final decision on!

Alan Macdonald is a sound geezer - he'll do you a good car at a good price.
Bought my Chimaera from him many moons ago.
I love yellow chimaeras but not in the market for one at the moment otherwise I would have snapped it up!

Is it just me, or does the yellow one sound cheap considering it's from a dealer and with warranty?
ZZR has recently completed a full overhaul and clean of the engine bay and corners. I suspect that is going to be worth more than a 6mth warrantee. It is looking fantastic. (Can you tell I know him? :hehe).
What colour do you prefer? Which one has the better accessories?
