Hi, Hope someone can help. Ive fitted the hotstart kit but car wouldn't start so just wanted to check I've done it correctly. I used the parts I had left over from recently doing the window upgrade.
I used a 5 pin 30amp relay. i located the black harness with 3 looped wires on it in footwell, cut the wire going in to numbers 10 & 6 and connected these to red wires to the relay pins 86 & 87. live wire with fuse attached to relay pin 30 and + on battery. the earth wire i used the unused green connector in footwell (bottom connection) with black wire going into it & to relay pin 85. but car wont start, have i done something wrong or used wrong relay?, grateful for any help you can give. Thanks

On a "standard" relay 85 and 86 operate the switching.

30 and 87 are joined when relay operates.

HTH.

Cheekyboo,
Just a thought: presumably by the time you had bought and fitted this kit, your car was no longer 'hot' so if it still won't start, it may not be the 'hot start' problem. That is usually (AFAIK) is characterised by a period of non start when trying to restart a warm engine but then magically starts again once allowed to cool.
If it is actually your immobiliser that has a problem, the hot start kit won't help.

Hi,

You didn't fit the the actual "hot start kit" then? you cobbled one together ?

Does sound like your relay isn't working to me, or it plugged in to the same side.

Where you cut the one link, reverse the relay connections. It does say in the instructions as found on the griff and chim pages websites. Basically one of the cut link is the input, the other the output.

Hi, thanks all for your replies. Just to add, the car did start when I put the wiring back (just wouldn't start when I plugged the relay in).
I did try swapping the wires over (the black wire that I cut and went to the 2 block connectors) that's when the car would not start.
So I assume I must have used the wrong type off relay or put the wires to the wrong pins on the relay!!

The connections on the relay are correct, likewise the relay type. So must be something simple, it is the fact it's not cranking? There are three circuits there.

Hi all, all seems to be wired up correctly! very odd. I put a metre on the black loop wires and there is no reading on the metre, should there be? the car will start when I connect the black looped wire back together. But when I attach to the 2 wires to the block leading to the relay the car will not start (no noise, cranking-anything)! I just cant work out why the car wont start, I tried swapping the 2 black looped wires around just in case but still no luck.. really want to get this mod working so I can actually put petrol in it and not ask for a push at the petrol station everytime!!!!

Does the relay click ? If not try reversing 86 & 87 incase there is a diode in series. Of course you may still have to reverse the connections at the link.

Hi, right finally got it sorted. It appears to be the relay not working. I swapped it for another relay I had (bosch relay to replace the fuel relay). this seemed to start the car. Been fine since I swapped the relays over. really appreciate all your help guys
