Starter or Alternator?
Discussion
Strange goings on with the electrics of my 1997 Chim.
On the way back from Cornwall I stopped after 2 hours for fuel. Surprise surprise she wouldn't start - just got the clunk of the starter.
I tried to rock it but without success. I managed, with help from a very willing surfer dude, to bump start it but then noticed that the ignition warning light was glowing. I checked the serpentine belt which was OK and continued on my way.
The warning light went off at 4000 rpm but then came back on again at about 4200.
I managed to get home but after 24 hours it still won't start - just the click of the starter.
All other electrice seem OK - alarm, windows, immobiliser.
Is it the starter or the alternator not getting enough charge into the battery?
Which way should I go? - apart from round the bend.
Any suggestions greatfully received.
Regards
Martin
