Different Meta Alarm problem

I have had my Chimaera for just over two weeks now, its my first TVR and (without wishing to sound over the top) its a realisation of a long held ambition. 
The only problem is that when i get out of it or go up to it part of the 'experience' ( or pose factor) is removed because it takes literally minutes for me to either lock or unlock the car!!!
The previous owner, who owned it from new, said that he pretty much only used one of the fobs and that you have to put it right next to the car, in the indent where the door pivots with the body.
Is this normal?

Do it yourself battery number CR1220 Lithium 3 Volt quantity 2 off. Available from Halfrauds.
Take Blipper, push button facing down and key ring attach (loop) in palm of hand prise open Blipper carefully (look for join in the end) with a blunt flat object remove top, remove PCB. Slide out battery holder and replace batteries. Reverse this process to re-assemble.
Just be careful and take it apart slowly if need be make notes of how it comes apart.

He may have been telling porkies. Yours will be a Meta99-1, Mine is a Meta99-2 and I know several people with similar aged Chimaeras. I would say the reception distance is low in comparison to your average shopping car but I've never heard of anyone having as much trouble as you have.
I'm not sure where to source the batteries. The fob will split apart easily, fingernails is all you need. There are two batteries mounted together. Get a reference number off one and go find your local Maplin store. They are too big for watches so jewellers may not carry them.

Thanks guys,
My concern was based around the faff that i had trying to replace some Selca key fobs for an MX5 (now be nice, we all start somewhere). If the battery was removed the code was lost, this was also the case on my motorcycle immobiliser fobs.

I had the same problem as tachoma (96 Chim).The only way you could alarm the car was to almost touch the car with the blipper near the trailing edge of the bonnet. The battery may help a bit but the problem is one of design. TVR in there wisdom decided to make their own version of the Meta blipper and as a result there's has a much smaller range . The only way to solve this problem for good is to buy a standard Meta fob which will give you a range of about 30 feet.
The guy to contact is Carl Baker .He can supply the new fobs and do all the clever stuff to make them work on your system. You can get him on 0772 0723407. Very helpful chap.

Spoke to Carl Baker and yes he is a very helpful chap even agreed to sort the problem out on a saturday morning for me.
Watch this space, I will let you all know how it goes but I have to say having looked at www.tvruk.com I don't think there will be any problems.
