Hmm, suppose I could take it out altogether?
I carried my spare around for thousands of miles. I got a puncture in a rear & couldn't get the jack under! Where do you put the road wheel with the spare on?
Yep, kinda settles it, always carried two cans of Tyre weld in case I got a puncture! Took the bloddy thing to LeMans in my old one this year too, think of all that extra beer space!!!
Yep, mines sat in the garage.
Several things convinced me:
1. If you use it, the car's almost dangerous to drive.
2. You can't jack the car up very easily on the road to change the wheel yourself anyway.
3. The later cars from TVR don't even have one, just Tyreweld.
4. Aston Martins don't have a spare, just tyreweld.
5. If you did use it, it's £150 to replace (apparantly) and it's a one time use thingy.
6. It takes up much more room than Tyreweld
7. If the tyre's too f
d to use Tyreweld, then I'd want someone to check the wheel and suspension for damage
8. If all else fails, that very, very nice man from the AA will take me and my car home (or anywhere else for that matter).

I always carry mine (except on track!).
Once had an incident in the other halves Alfa GTV only a couple of miles from home when the tyre weld failed (cut in the sidewall). Waited for hours for a recovery truck which got us home after local tyre places had closed. I then had to use my TVR to get the wheel to a tyre dealer for a new tyre which took 5 mins to fit.
With a space saver we would have been able to get to the tyre dealers within an hour and be on our way again rather than ruining a weekend away.
Sorry, don't have a strap...

The space saver is not a use and chuck spare.
That is a common misconception.
It has no mileage limit either, most people think it can only do 50 miles. Actually that is do not exceed 50 miles per hour.
It has a standard (ish) tread pattern so could in theory be used for 1000's of miles (Though why would you want to?)
Ditch it and join the real men with Tyreweld.

i never really understood this. if, say for example, you had to continue your journey on the space save across all of france in one go, you would do, say, 600 miles on it in one journey. How is that any different to doing 10 days worth of driving at 60 miles a day...
anyway, I used to carry just tyreweld until a few bad experiences so I carry the spare again - with the strap...
first bad experience with tyreweld was nothing major, just didnt work at all so I was stuffed...
second one was more annoying and my real reason for not wanting to use it. Despite it saying on the tin that tyre repairers would remove it for a small surcharge, I called about 5 tyre fitters locally who all refused to touch the tyre after it had been filled with tyreweld. great, so my brand new SO3 that had done less than 1000 miles got replaced
£100 a time, no thanks
