.... silicone hoses?

Having received my 72mm plenum means my parts collection is coming together nicely thumbup

Next on the list is the silicone hose from the plenum to the air filter. I am going to be having standalone management so no need for MAF.

Where can I get suitable hoses in the sizes I require?

What set-up do you have, same diameter all the way from plenum to air filter?

Will I need another size of air filter with a larger fitting?

Sorry for all the questions, I am trying to make it all as easy/quick as possible once the fettling starts. I understand that any bottleneck in the induction piping will restrict everything thereafter. i.e. People with larger plenums but still using original MAF sensor, thus the restriction in the MAF cancelling out some of the benefits of the larger plenum. Or am I wrong?

I upgraded 4 lite to 5 litre. Mine wouldn't run properly until I upgraded the 5AM AFM to a 20 AM.
Try ACT for their hard rubber tube. Do tell them you don't have the AFM in.

Have you got the 45mm trumpet base and port matched inlet manifold ? I have the ACT induction kit ,if I were to do it again I would buy my own silicone pipe in 90mm then use a 90mm reducing elbow on to the plenum .

The ACT induction kit comes accross in front of the radiator ,my choice would be to leave it short like Chilliman setup.

Yup, got the 45mm shortened trumpets and matched inlet manifold, soon to be joined by some heads. Is shortest the best route to take when it comes to induction? Don't think I've seen Chilli's setup, unless he's the one who has his air filter in one of the bumper recesses?

If shortest is the best, has anyone ever tried just having the air filter in the engine bay, like a Cerbera?

The advantage of having it in the nose is that the intake sucks up nice cold air, in the bay as we know, it gets reaaaaaly hot and hot air doesn't work as well!

I may fit 90mm all the way through with the airfilter in this position . That means just the reducing elbow and a a gentle angle just to tilt it down in to the bulkhead. Well is if you don`t have the air flow meter.

Peter, that's what I thought. How do the Cerb boys do it? I've not had a good look at one so don't know what their cooling is like.

That's what I was talking about. Looks like a good solution.

I reckon mine needs more air at high RPM.

If you look at the graph, it starts running richer at High RPM and suggests that a little more are is desirable.

This was run without a filter in case the filter was restricting flow.

I like the idea of a 90mm silicon tube to the nose and then a bit of trickery inside!

Chilli, what size air filter are you running, is a 90mm to match the tubing? Also, what is your plenum setup? I can't see the elbow pipe in your pic... just some metal looking thing?

I think you have enough power Peter smile What kind of trickery are you thinking?

Nick, I'm not sure of the filter size, I did discuss it when we put it in but didn't record the details frown May well remove it for a clean tomorrow so if so will measure up and let you know..... The airbox is huge, with a large diameter inlet... From memory the inlet piping is 90mm ID.. will check.. going to try and post pre & post mods...

Hmm, seem to have uploaded smile

So, first pic is the standard ACT CF airbox which is designed to fit to the standard 14CUX AFM. Obviously no AFM as was/is running MS2... Second pic is an alloy airbox (custom made) with much larger diameter inlet, and bigger diameter induction hose, which runs right down to the air filter in the doggy bite smile

It's allowing a lot more air into the engine.....

It's what Phazed needs wink

I'm sure if you strip out the existing, pull out the horn and other gubbins that's in the way it would be achievable.
